'Platform for Privacy Preferences' technology

The Pleiade web site uses P3P technology and validates against the P3P Validator. This is a development by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) based on the P3P Initiative. This allows users greater control over the protection of their personal information and to make more informed choices over online privacy.

With a P3P-enabled browser you can:

  • Configure your browser to automatically detect if a web site collects personally identifiable information, uses that information to create user profiles, or allows visitors to opt-out of the data collection.
  • Preset options, or customize your setting by controlling what kinds of data are you willing to share and what types of "cookie" files are you willing to accept. As you surf the Web, the software then determines whether your privacy preferences match a site's data collection practices.
  • Enhance your contol of cookies: you can make selections based on whether you wish to accept various types of cookies such as session (temporary), permanent, within a given domain or outside it (third party), and with or without a special "P3P compact policy" file – a compact policy describes the attributes of a given cookie.

Note 1

An IP address is an numerical identifier for a computer on a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network, such as the World Wide Web. Networks use the TCP/IP protocol to route information based on the IP address of the destination. That is, a unique IP address is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web, allowing Web servers to locate and identify it. IP addresses are essential in order for users to communicate and browse on the Internet.
